Summer in Garmisch

Situated in the heart of the Zugspitz Region, Garmisch-Partenkirchen is an ideal base for hikes and biking tours as well as excursions to Munich, the Neuschwanstein castle or Innsbruck.

A well-established network of hiking trails and bicycle routes offers perfect conditions for anyone wanting to explore this Alpine region, be it on foot or on two wheels. It makes it easy to access

  • the Zugspitze, at 2,962 m Germany’s highest peak
  • the Karwendel mountain range with its hiking trails ranging from family-friendly walks to ambitious climbs
  • the so-called Spitzenwanderweg that leads through the Zugspitz Region on 200 km and more than 6,800 m in altitude
  • the Geisterklamm and Höllental gorges – literally translated to “Ghost’s Gorge” and “Hell Valley”, which despite their names prove to be perfect destinations for families with kids

In addition to dedicated biking routes, a number of hiking trails can also be accessed by bike.

However, Garmisch-Partenkirchen has to offer more than impressive peaks and lush, green meadows. The Zugspitz Region is home to a variety of destinations, all of them within easy reach of your accommodation.

Whether you want to explore the surroundings or take a day trip to neighbouring Austria, Garmisch’s location and good transport connections make it easy to travel to:

  • the Bavarian capital Munich
  • the magical castle of Neuschwanstein
  • Tyrol’s capital, Innsbruck
  • the Geigenbaumuseum in Mittenwald, highlighting the local history of violin makers, and many other museums in the area

Garmisch-Partenkirchen and the Zugspitz Region are renowned for their versatility and charming flair. Here, dreams come true and everything is possible, irrespective of whether you are after an active vacation, indulgence or relaxation.
